FAITH:
"Where did this man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands? Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house" (Mark 6.3, 4).
Have you ever noticed how difficult it can be to spiritually impact your immediate circle of relationships and family? Jesus warned us of this phenomenon. We often relate to family and friends differently because they have a history with us that no one else has. They most likely have not had the privilege to witness the spiritual transformation that you have experienced and is evidenced by others in your life.
The spiritual authority that others may recognize in you is not there with your own family and friends. "After all, you're just my sister or brother, with whom I fought, played, and lived everyday life," is what is thought. Jesus was more qualified to be a carpenter than the Son of God in his own family and community's eyes. It was too difficult to change old perceptions of someone they knew so well. So too, is it for your family members.
The sad result of this mindset is that we often do not experience the same fruit of ministry in our family's lives that we do outside this circle. It is an unfortunate truth. "Jesus still healed a few sick people," meaning there is still a remnant of faith that can receive from you and I. Ultimately, God determines the fruit of our lives. Do not allow spiritual pride to prevent you from freely giving to your family and friends when they do not receive you in the way you think they should. You don't know which "few" God will choose to touch through your life.
Many did not receive Jesus. Therefore, many will not receive you. Nevertheless, allow God to touch the few in your circle He chooses to touch through you. by Os Hilman

FLORA AND FAUNA:
Settling in for the winter? Considering a few house plants to lighten up your interior? According to a NASA study, certain plants can be chosen to best purify your home's air.
NASA tested popular plants for their ability to create oxygen and filter common toxins like trichloroethylene (found in varnishes, paints, and adhesives), formaldehyde (present in carpets, furniture, and foam insulation), and benzene (found in plastics, synthetic fibres, and detergents) to purify the air astronauts breathe. [NASA] recommends having 15 to 18 good-sized houseplants in an 1,800-square-foot home.
1. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
2. English Ivy (Hedera helix)
3. Nephytis
4. Dragon Tree (Dracaena marginata)
5. Gerbera Daisy (Gerbera jamesonii)
6. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
7. Janet Craig Dracaena (Dracaena deremensis)
8. Chinese Evergreen (Aglaaonema modestum)
9. Variegated Corn Plant (Dracaena fragrans "Massangeana")
10. Dracaena Warneckii (Dracaena deremensis "Warneckii")
11. Potted Mum (Chrysanthemum)
12. Corn Plant (Dracaena fragrans "Massangeana")
Other recommended plants: Bamboo Palm (Chamaedorea seifrizii), Umbrella plant (Schefflera arboricola), Heart-leaf Philodendron (Philodendron scandens), Tree Philodendron (Philodendron selloum), Elephant Ear Philodendron (Philodendron domesticum), Weeping Fig (Ficus benjamina), Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata), Pothos Vine (Epipremnum aureus), Aloe Vera
Just a quick warning that should be noted: chinese evergreen, corn plant, and nephytis are toxic to cats! The aloe and dragon plants are also toxic to cats. Most lilies are too.
I read the Wolverton study (in his book How to Grow Fresh Air, which I recommend for anyone interested in this topic) and these are not the top performing plants, and they're not in any particular order. Aloe, along with most other desert plants, is actually a very poor performer; it's listed there simply because it was among those tested.
The best performers for removing pollutants include areca palm, bamboo palm, peace lily, Boston fern, English ivy, and Janet Craig dracaena, and rubber tree. In general, tropical/water-loving plants filter more than desert/water-conserving plants, and the bigger the plants, the better, whatever kind. (They don't really say what 'good-sized plants' are, but aim for floor plants, at least 12".)
Orchids and succulents are mid-to-poor performers, but worth keeping in the bedroom because they release oxygen at night. (Of course there are great aesthetic reasons for keeping these plants.)
You can strategically place your plants near where you work or sleep or otherwise sit for long periods. Wolverton calls it a personal breathing space.
Low-light plants include spider plants, pothos, philos, English ivy, green rubber tree, weeping fig, peace lily, and Janet Craig.

Victory In Jesus
FAITH:
1 Samuel 28:1-25
Saul discovered the Philistines massing for an attack. Unsure of his ability to lead the nation to victory, Saul turned to the witch of En Dor for help.
Sometimes, in a struggle to solve our problems, we are tempted to turn away from God's help. Saul's life demonstrated the disastrous results of seeking help by means of spiritual forces other than God.
So there are external spiritual forces which are at work in this world, seeking to keep us from God and his will....
And this is not just external to us. This battle goes on inside of us....Maybe your sin is wrong sexual desires, pride gluttony, laziness, or anger, or some other besetting sin....But you feel the inner struggle Sometimes you conclude just as Paul did in Romans 7:22-24 ["What a struggle!])
But don't stop there! Note Paul's glorious conclusion in verse 25 and 8:2...."Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!...For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death."
by Billy Graham
Apply it: Pride, insecurity, and fear will rise up and assert themselves, prompting us to live independently of God. We must anticipate this temptation and resist, allowing faith in Christ to lead us toward God and all or his resources.

Help us to understand that by surrendering to Him, the ultimate victory is ours. Let your kingdom live int the hearts of people and let your kingdom come eternally. In Jesus' name, Amen

Don't remove the love
FAITH:
Genesis 2:4-3:24God the Creator completed his masterpiece by creating man and woman. God breathed life and spirit into his special handiwork. Though sin entered the world, God also provided for redemption from sin.
God created people with the freedom to choose or reject him. When his creation chose to rebel, God revealed his plan for salvation.
He placed one scoop of clay upon another until a form lay lifeless on the ground.....
All were silent as the Creator reached in himself and removed something yet unsee. "It's called 'choice.' The seed of choice."
Creation stood in silence and gazed upon the lifeless form.
An Angel spoke, "But what if he..."
"What if he chooses not to love?" the creator finished. "Come, I will show you."
Unbound by today, God and the angel walked into the realm of tomorrow...
The angel gasped at what he saw. Spontaneous love. Voluntary devotion. Never had he seen anything like these....The angel stood speechless as they passed through centuries of repugnance. Never had he seen such filth. Rotten hearts. Ruptured promises. Forgotten loyalties...
The Creator walked on in time, further and further into the future, until he stood by a tree. A tree that would be fashioned into a cradle. Even then he could smell the hay that would surround him...
"Wouldn't it be easier to not plant the seed? Wouldn't it be easier to not give the choice?"
"It would," the Creator spoke slowly. "But to remove the choice is to remove the love."
....They stepped into the Garden again. The Maker looked earnestly at the clay creation. A monsoon of love swelled up within him. He had died for the creation before he had made him.
God's form bent over the sculptured face and breathed. Dust stirred on the lips of the new one. The chest rose, cracking the red mud. The cheeks fleshened. A finger moved. And an eye opened.
But more incredible than the moving of the flesh was the stirring of the spirit. Those who could see the unseen gasped.
Perhaps it was the wind who said it first. Perhaps what the star saw that moment is what has made it blink ever since. Maybe it was left to an angel to whisper it:
"It looks like...it appears so much like...it is him!"
The angel wasn't speaking of the face, the features, or the body. He was looking inside--at the soul.
"It's eternal!" gasped another.
Within the man, God had placed a divine seed. A seed of his self. The God of might had created earth's mightiest. The Creator had created, not a creature, but another creator. And the One who had chosen to love had created one who could love in return.
Now it's our choice. by Max Lucado
Applying it: God did not create us as robots. Praise him for giving us the ability to serve and love him purposefully. Thank him for his gifts of freedom and creativity. Set aside time today for creative praise. Make that choice today.
Exploring it: Human Spirit--Job 32:8; Ecclesiastes 12:7; Acts 7:59.

Have a great TODAY.
FAITH:
Psalm 118:24
Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life, ever! There were times when I wondered if I would make it to today; but I did! And because I did I'm going to celebrate!
Today, I'm going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I have had so far: the accomplishments, the many blessings, and, yes, even the hardships because they have served to make me stronger.
I will go through this day with my head held high, and a happy heart. I will marvel at God's seemingly simple gifts: the morning dew, the sun, the clouds, the trees, the flowers, the birds. Today, none of these miraculous creations will escape my notice.
Today, I will share my excitement for life with other people. I'll make someone smile. I'll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone I don't even know.
Today, I'll give a sincere compliment to someone who seems down. I'll tell a child how special he is, and I'll tell someone I love just how deeply I care for her and how much she means to me.
Today is the day I quit worrying about what I don't have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things God has already given me. I'll remember that to worry is just a waste of time because my faith in God and his Divine Plan ensures everything will be just fine.
And tonight, before I go to bed, I'll go outside and raise my eyes to the heavens. I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon, and I will praise God for these magnificent treasures.
As the day ends and I lay my head down on my pillow, I will thank the Almighty for the best day of my life. And I will sleep the sleep of a contented child, excited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, ever! by Gregory M. Lousignont, Ph.D.
FRIENDS:
This prayer was sent to me and is particularly touching for me since the song mentioned was my Mom's favorite hymn and I can still hear her singing it when she had times of trouble or distress. "What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear, what a privilege to carry, everything to him in prayer." I can still hear my grandmother sing that old hymn to me. What a precious, loving saint. And what a precious, loving Savior! What a friend, that would lay down his life for me! So often we get wrapped up in the day, that we don't remain in that attitude of prayer. I know that Jesus is there, ready to intercede for me at any moment. I know that your Holy Spirit helps when I don't even have the words to say. I know that you know my heart and want to hear from my lips. Heavenly Father, thank you for the privilege of coming to you as a child to a parent. Thank you for calming me, giving me hugs in your own sweet ways, and listening. Thank you for your understanding ways...and even your correction. I pray that I will become more and more like the person you want me to be as the days go on. I love you and want to please you. I come to you in the name of Jesus, amen.
FOOD:
Things you wish your Mama had taught you
-Use a strand of raw spaghetti to light all the candles on a birthday cake without singeing your fingers
-A hunk of bread sitting in the bottom of the broiler pan will soak up grease and prevent flare-ups from scorching a steak or chop.
-To substitute all-purpose flour for cake flour, measure out 1 cup of all-purpose flour, then remove 2 tablespoons.
-Don't think only milk should be used to moisten confectioners' sugar frostings. Alternatives include strong coffee, peanut butter (with a little milk), fruit juice, jam or jelly (melted slightly), honey or maple syrup.
-Substitution for 1 cup light corn syrup: 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar and 1/4 cup water. For 1 cup dark corn syrup: 3/4 cup light corn syrup plus 1/4 cup light molasses, or 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar plus 1/4 cup water.
-If you don't have a biscuit (or round cookie) cutter, use a thin-lipped glass or an empty, clean 14- to 16-ounce can.
-Old-fashioned oats and quick-cooking oats can usually be interchanged in recipes
-Before heating milk, rinse the pan with cold water to keep it from scorching and sticking.
-Spray a grater with non-stick vegetable spray before grating foods like cheese and citrus rind and cleanup will be a snap.
-If you don't like getting your hands messy when mixing meatloaf, put the ingredients in a large, zip-closure plastic bag, seal, then squish the contents together until well mixed.
-It's easier to perfectly center a gelatin-based mold if you first rinse the plate it's to be turned out on with cold water.
-Ham will slip out of its can more easily if you immerse it in hot water 1 to 2 minutes before opening.
-Dried fruit will be easier to chop if you place it in the freezer an hour before chopping.
-Lightly spray non-stick vegetable spray in whatever container you use to melt chocolate and the melted chocolate will slip right out.
-Before measuring syrupy sweeteners such as honey and corn syrup, lightly coat a measuring spoon or liquid measuring cup with vegetable oil.
-Don't put papery onion skins in the garbage disposal or you could clog the works. -To keep meringue from "weeping" (exuding moisture), blend 1 teaspoon cornstarch with the sugar before beating it into the egg whites.
-To peel an orange or grapefruit to use the sections in a salad, immerse the whole fruit in a pot of boiling-hot water and let stand 4 minutes. Remove fruit from the water and cool until it's easy to handle. When you peel away the skin, the pith should come with it. Any remnants can be pulled off with a grapefruit knife.
-One or 2 teaspoons instant coffee or unsweetened cocoa adds color and a rich flavor to sauces and gravies.
-For extra-crisp sausage patties, dip them in flour before frying.
-When blending hot mixtures in an electric blender, always begin at low speed and gradually increase to high. Starting at high speed can force the hot liquid up and scald your hands or face.
-Meat will brown better if you blot any moisture off the surface with a paper towel. Dusting the meat with flour also will contribute to browning.
-Toasting nuts before using in recipes intensifies their flavor and adds crunch. Another bonus -- toasted nuts aren't as likely to sink in cakes, breads and other batter-based foods. Toast nuts or seeds in an ungreased skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently, until golden brown. Or toast in a 350-degree oven, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes.
-When cooking dried beans, if you want a firm texture, cook them uncovered. Covering the pot produces softer beans.
-Unsalted water will reach a boil faster than salted water, so add salt to rapidly boiling water just before adding pasta (or other foods).
-When cooking corn on the cob, adding salt to the boiling water will toughen the corn. Add it after cooking.
-When whipping cream with an electric mixer, minimize splattering by starting out at medium speed, gradually increasing the speed as the cream thickens.
-Expiration dates on milk are purposefully conservative -- properly stored, most milk will be fine to use a week after the carton's date.
-Mustard can be stored at least 2 years; refrigerate after opening.
-Unpopped popcorn can be stored at room temperature for about a year, but it retains its natural moisture better in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. Popcorn that keeps its moisture produces larger popped kernels.
-If you buy oil in large jugs, fill a screw-top pint bottle with it. Store the pint at room temperature for ready use and refrigerate the large container.
-Storing plastic wrap in the freezer will keep it from sticking to itself.
-If marshmallows have gotten hard, seal them in a plastic bag with 2 to 3 slices fresh white bread (not French or Italian) and let stand three days.
-Always check the date on the carton of eggs to be sure you're getting the freshest available eggs. Some eggs have a Julian date (1 through 365) displayed on their carton to indicate the day they were packed. With the Julian system, Jan. 1 is No. 1 and Dec. 31 is No. 365. Some producers stamp their cartons with a date 30 days past the pack date. According to the American Egg Board, fresh eggs in the shell can be stored in their carton in the refrigerator 4 to 5 weeks beyond the pack date without significant quality loss.
-To keep ripened cheese longer, dampen a sheet of paper towel with cider vinegar and wrap it around the cheese, then put inside a plastic bag and seal. Recheck the towel every couple of days and remoisten, if necessary. The vinegar will inhibit the growth of mold.
-Want to give your house that homey smell? Combine 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, or one cinnamon stick (broken into several pieces), with 6 cups water and heat to a boil. Then reduce to a simmer, and let it fill your house with the scent of nostalgia.
-Rub coffee or tea stains on china with a paste of baking soda and water.
-If your kitchen sponge is getting smelly, soak it overnight in a mixture of 2 cups warm water and 2 tablespoons baking soda. Rinse thoroughly before using.
-If you love fruit juice but are counting calories, dilute it with sparkling water.

How are WE doing?
FAITH:
1 Timothy 3:1-16
Paul laid down certain qualifications for selecting leaders in the church. These qualifications would help the church weed out undeserving candidates, develop Christian maturity, and bring glory and honor to God.
Leaders must know God's Word and have a mature Christian lifestyle. Every Christian ought to pursue these characteristics. Leaders must already have them.
How do we tear down the pedestals? How do we vigorously assert the biblical mind-set of servant leadership, so radically at odds with the celebrity-crazed culture in which we live? Like everything else, it begins with each of us coming under the conviction of God's truth. All of us--pastors and lay leaders and parishioners--need to take a hard look at ourselves.
First, we must reassess our objectives.....
The church, as a witness to the kingdom of God, is to be a community that worships God and equips men and women to be disciples, growing in holiness and service. How can the church fulfill these functions if it is not a servant church--from pulpit to pew? And this being the case, the principal job of the pastor is to equip others to serve....
Our second task is to consciously strive to avoid the snares. This is not easy. Temptations surround us every day---both our natural inclinations and the world's style of authoritarian leadership. But there are ways to protect ourselves....
William Booth, founder and first general of the Salvation Army, sent a command to all of his missionaries in India: "Go to the Indian as a brother, which indeed you are, and show the love which none can doubt you feel...eat and drink and dress and live by his side. Speak his language share his sorrow....
As Dietrich Bonhoeffer put it: "The church is herself only when she exists for humanity....She must take her part in the social life of the world, not lording it over men, but helping and serving them. She must tell men, whatever their calling, what it means to live in Christ, to exist for others."
If the church can only be the church when it exists for others, then the Christian can only be truly Christian when he or she is willing to be emptied out for others. There are no harder words in all of Scripture that Jesus' commandment that we love one another as He loved us--which means love that lays down it life for another. by Charles Colson

What steps can you take toward maturity? Pray that your family and friends would notice a difference in the next weeks as you sharpen your character.

Father, we invite your assistance and guidance and powerful indwelling, because we do not have the strength to be transformed into your likeness and not be conformed to this world. Teach us to be honest with ourselves about who we really are, then, God, please begin to remold our hearts into total surrender. In Jesus' name, Amen

The Most Dangerous Cake in the World
1 Large Coffee Mug
4 tablespoons flour (that's plain flour, not self-rising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
Small splash of vanilla
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well . Add the egg and mix
thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000
watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be
alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to share!)
And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?
Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at
any time of the day or night!

2. After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the Flight Attendant came

And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open

3. Part of a flight attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like

Try moving away from yourself
FAITH:
1 Timothy 2:1-15
Paul laid down guidelines for proper worship. He emphasized the importance of prayer and orderly worship.
Prayer is an important part of public worship.
We live in a society that is reasonably organized. Put a letter in the box, an it usually ends up where you want it to go. Order an item from a catalog, and it usually comes to you in the right size, color, and model. Ask someone to provide you a service, and it is reasonable to expect that it will work our that way. In other words, we are used to results in response to our arrangements. That is why prayer can be discouraging for some of us. How can we predict the result? We are tempted to abandon prayer as a viable exercise and try getting the results ourselves.
But the fact is that my prayer life cannot be directly tied to the results I expect or demand. I have had many opportunities by now to see that the things I want God to do in response to my prayers can be unhealthy for me. I have begun to see that worship and intercession are far more the business of aligning myself with God's purposes that asking Him to align with mine.
Henri Nouwen says it best when he writes:
"Prayer is a radical conversion of all our mental processes because in prayer we move away from ourselves, our worries, preoccupation, and self-gratification---and direct all that we recognize as ours to God in the simple trust that through His love all will be made new." by Gordon MacDonald
Applying it: Worship God today and join with other Christians this Sunday in public prayer, singing and Bible teaching. Let corporate worship become a first priority to you.
Exploring it: Worship--1 Chronicles 16:29; Nehemiah 9:2-3; Psalm 100:2; Jeremiah 7:2-3; John 4:24
FRIENDS:
Dear Jesus, Your love is perfect and steadfast and I am humbled by Your love and Mercy. You went to Calvary so that I might have eternal life. CLERICUS
FAITH:
1 Chronicles 22:2-24:31
David planned the temple. After the exile, these dimensions were used to rebuild the temple.
In service to God, everyone's job remains important. Each person's part honors God.
When we compare the present day churches to the original blueprint it is strikingly apparent that many deviations have been permitted which have been detrimental to the life of the church. Through the centuries the church gradually turned away from simple provisions which made it such a powerful and compelling force in its early years, and there came in terrible distortions from which we are suffering greatly today. The popular thinking fastened upon the building as the identifying symbol and emphasis was put upon great imposing structures and massive cathedrals. In the beginning, "working in the church" meant to exercise a gift or perform a ministry among Christian people wherever they were, but gradually it came to mean doing some religious act within a building.
Along with this came a gradual transfer of responsibility from the people to what was termed, "the clergy," which is a term derived from the Latin clericus meaning a priest. The scriptural concept that every believer is a priest before God was gradually lost and a special body of super-Christians emerged who were looked to for practically everything and so came to be termed "the ministry."
When the ministry was thus left to the professionals there was nothing left for the people to do other than come to church and listen. They were told it was their responsibility to bring the world into the church building to hear the pastor preach the gospel. Soon Christianity became nothing but a spectator sport, very much akin to the definition of football---22 men down on the field, desperately in need of rest and 20 thousand in the grand stands, desperately in need of exercise.
This unbiblical distortion has placed pastors under an unbearable burden. They have proved completely unequal to the task of evangelizing the world, counseling the distressed and brokenhearted, ministering to the poor and needy, relieving the oppressed and afflicted, expounding the Scriptures, and challenging the entrenched forces of evil in and increasingly darkened world. They were never meant to do it......
Nothing is more desperately needed that to return to the dynamic of the early church.......
Again it is the entire body of believers who must attempt the work of the ministry, equipped and guided by gifted men who are able to expound and apply the
Scriptures with such wisdom that even the least believer discovers and begins to exercise the gift of gifts the Hoy Spirit has given him. The whole body then stirs with resurrection power. Boldness and power again become the trademarks of the church of Jesus Christ.

Father, Lift up our eyes so that we may see the gifts your Spirit has placed in us. Help us to see what the difference is between a Christian who's reaching out to people, trying to help people and one who just sits in the pew week after week. Teach us to worship by feeding the poor, giving a word of kindness to someone who need it, by encouraging someone or studying with them. Teach us to use our hands to help Jesus heal the brokenhearted. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FAITH:
FOR THOSE OF US THAT ATTEND AT SONOMA AVENUE, DON'T FORGET THE PRAYER MEETING TONIGHT, FRIDAY. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!!!! And for the others that are reading this, please keep our church in your prayers are we head into 2009 and as we re-new our vision for our congregation.
When God says to pray, He really means it. To pray is the most commonly mentioned command in Scripture. It is mentioned more than "love your neighbor," more than "go to church," and more than "evangelize." More than anything else, God calls us to pray.
We should be people of great prayer. We should be prayer warriors. We should be people who use the ministry prayer to its fullest capacity. The highest and greatest calling of Christians is the ministry or prayer.
I would like to encourage you, admonish you to make a decision to pray more and to set up some specific plans to support that decision. Will you determine in your hearts to pray more? Will you start a prayer group in your home? Pray continually---live in the spirit of prayer. by Max Lucado
Matthew 6:5-15
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
It is taken for granted that all who are disciples of Christ pray. You may as soon find a living man that does not breathe, as a living Christian that does not pray. If prayerless, then graceless. The Scribes and Pharisees were guilty of two great faults in prayer, vain-glory and vain repetitions. to Verily they have their reward; to if in so great a matter as is between us and God, when we are at prayer, we can look to so poor a thing as the praise of men, it is just that it should be all our reward. Yet there is not a secret, sudden breathing after God, but he observes it. It is called a reward, but it is of grace, not of debt; what merit can there be in begging? If he does not give his people what they ask, it is because he knows they do not need it, and that it is not for their good. So far is God from being wrought upon by the length or words of our prayers, that the most powerful intercessions are those which are made with groanings that cannot be uttered. Let us well study what is shown of the frame of mind in which our prayers should be offered, and learn daily from Christ how to pray. (Mt 6:9-15)
FRIENDS:
Father, when you were on earth, you prayer. You prayed in the morning, you prayed at night, you prayed alone, you prayed with people. In your hours of distress, you retreated into times of prayer. In your hours of joy, you lifted your heart and hands to the Father in prayer. Help us to be more like you in this way. . . help us to make prayer a priority in our daily lives. In Jesus' name, Amen

CAREFUL what you say to Junior.
A father and his 6-year-old son walk into a bank. When they get in line the son notices the very large woman in front of them. The son tugs at the dad’s jacket and says, "Daddy, look! That lady is huge!" the father replies "yes son she's as big as a truck". About a minute later the large woman’s beeper goes off and the kid pushes his father out of the way and yells, "Look out dad!!! It’s backing up!"

Discovering your Purpose

Thank you to the reader that sent this to me. I always appreciate it when someone has something they want to share.
FAITH:
"You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something" (Psalm 139: 15).
If you are going to discover how God wants to use your life and work, you must know why you were created. If you start trying to determine your purpose in life before understanding why you were created, you will inevitably get hung up on the things you do as the basis for fulfillment in your life, which will only lead to frustration and disappointment.
First and foremost, God created you to know Him and to have an intimate relationship with Him. In fact, God says that if a man is going to boast about anything in life, "boast about this: that he understands and knows me" (Jer. 9:24). Mankind's relationship with God was lost in the Garden when Adam and Eve sinned. Jesus' death on the cross, however, allows us to restore this relationship with God and to have an intimate fellowship with Him. The apostle Paul came to understand this when he said, "I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself" (Phil. 3:10, THE MESSAGE).
Establishing this relationship with God is vital to understanding your purpose. If you don't have this relationship with God, you will seek to fulfill your purpose out of wrong motives; such as fear, insecurity, pride, money, relationships, guilt, or unresolved anger. God's desire is for you to be motivated out of love for Him and to desire to worship Him in all that you do. As you develop your relationship with God, He will begin to reveal His purpose for your life. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord" (Jer. 29:11).
Today, ask God to help you discover your unique purpose. by Os Hillman
FRIENDS:
Father, I know you are able...able to move mountains, to speak creation into existence, to heal the sick, save the lost, to meet every need I have. I commit myself to you. I pray for all the people around the world, plagued by turmoil, wars, illness, lack of basic needs, insecurity and fear, and addictions that enslave. Lord, You alone know best how to meet these needs and solve these dilemmas. I pray that You would intervene, that people would be drawn to You, and that You would give them rest and healing, safety and security, a sound mind and a hopeful future. I pray that you would help me to see who you want me to minister to today and offer a hand of fellowship, a ray of light, or whatever You want to offer through me. Thank you, Lord, for meeting my needs. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Thanks to the reader that shared this one.....
Yesterday I had a flat tire on the interstate. So I eased my car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully got out of the car and opened the back. I took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic. They looked so lifelike you wouldn't believe it! They were in trench coats exposing their nude bodies and private parts to the approaching drivers. To my surprise, cars started slowing down looking at my lifelike men. And of course, traffic started backing up. Everybody was tooting their horns and waving like crazy. It wasn't long before a state trooper pulled up behind me. He got out of his car and started walking toward me. I could tell he was not a happy camper!
'What's going on here?'
'My car has a flat tire', I said calmly.
'Well, what are those obscene cardboard men doing here by the road ?'
I couldn't believe that he didn't know. So I told him, 'Hellooooo, those are my emergency flashers!'
